We have been having fun with our maths this week. We have been looking at patterns (patterns are the beginning of algebra at this level). We are learning to recognise, create and continue patterns. Here are some of the patterns that we created with our partner from things that we found around the classroom.
Sam and Tryone made a tall and short pattern.
Dante and Caitlin used blocks to make a colour pattern while Madison K and Sunny made a shape pattern out of cards and counters.
Aila and Cayless used our sound and words cards to make their pattern. Koben made a big pattern out of chairs.
Madison Hunt and Tama ended up with a very tricky pattern that had lots of elements in it.
Harmony and Dallas used the different sized drink bottles to make their pattern and Hadlee made his colour pattern out of blocks. We made some very interesting patterns.....well done Room 12
Yesterday (Wednesday 9th April) we went to Kitchen/Garden with Mrs Mourie and Mrs Sinclair. We were split into 2 groups, the kitchen group, where we made zuchinni fritters and the garden group. It was too wet to do any gardening so we designed our own gardens.
Many thanks to the parents who came in to help us - Wyatt's mum, Tess's mum, Emily's mum...we hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did!
Last week the children bought in Taonga (treasures) to share with the class.
My taonga is a million year old fossil that was found in a coal mine that my Grandfather worked in England and sent to me when I was a little girl.
Sam showed us the 4 leafed clover he found when he was 3 years old. His mother pressed it and put it in a frame. We hope it brings Sam lots of luck.
Harmony bought in a photo of her Grandmother. Her Grandmother has passed away but Harmony remembers her cooking, especially her yummy pancakes.
Tess had some pictures of the holidays her and her family had been on. The photos helped her to remember all the fun times they have had.
Madison and Aila bought in special items that had been given to them by people who have passed away. Madison has a lovely dolphin ornament and Aila has a greenstone necklace. What a lovely way to remember people.
Hadlee has a special hat that was given to him by his Grandma. It keeps his head warm on cold days and he thinks about his Grandma when he wears it.
Dallas bought in an album with lots and lots of photos of her family. The photos show all
the special times that her family has had.
Ellah also showed us some photos. These were photos of her and her little brother doing things together. What a good way to remember all the good times.
